American Muslims Assisting Neighbors is a registered 501(c)(3) private not-for-profit foundation, incorporated in Illinois and run by volunteers across Will and DuPage County.
Neighbors first
AMAN exists to translate faith into action. We follow the example of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) and the Islamic tradition of service to the community you live in — without regard to race or religion.
That means the people we serve are simply our neighbors. Some are Muslim. Most are not. The distinction has never mattered to the work.
Everything we do is carried out by volunteers giving two to three hours a month, alongside partner congregations, food banks, fire departments and civic organizations across Plainfield, Naperville, Lockport and the surrounding communities.

To follow in the footsteps of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him), and implement the Islamic ideology of service to the community we live in, without regard to race or religion.
As Muslims we must improve the communities we live in by visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, teaching people to read, and helping people who have no one to turn to.
A righteous society, living in peace
Following in the footsteps of Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him), create a righteous society where we can all live in peace and harmony in spite of our differences.
It is by translating our love of God into good actions that we strengthen our faith and make this world a better place for all.
Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.
What we owe the people around us
These duties, drawn from the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), are the standard AMAN holds itself to.
You must help him if he asks for your help
Give him relief if he seeks your relief
Lend him if he needs a loan
Do not block his air by raising your building high without his permission
Do not harass him
Give him a share when you buy fruits; if you do not, bring what you buy quietly and let not your children take them out to excite the jealousy of his children
You must visit and take care of him when he is ill
You must attend his funeral when he dies, and take part in burial arrangements
If he commits a sin, prevent it from being known
Congratulate him if he is met with good fortune
Grieve in sympathy if a calamity befalls him
Anyone within reach of your help
A neighbor is not only the person on the other side of your fence. It is the family down the street, the firefighter who answers the call at 3am, the senior who has nobody to drive them to a hospital appointment, the child who needs a meal at school.
Once you widen the definition that far, the list of things you can do about it gets very long — which is exactly the point.
